April Galyardt is a statistician and data scientist specializing in applications of statistical machine learning tools to cognitive science, learning analytics, and educational data mining. Her work at the SEI has included a number of learning-related projects, with a specific focus on applying psychometrics to assess the efficacy of cybersecurity analyst training. Notable projects include applying item-response theory to assessing teaching and testing effectiveness and the instrumentation of a cybersecurity training platform for psychometric evaluation. Dr. Galyardt earned her Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon in 2010. Before joining SEI, she was a professor at the University of Georgia, where she designed and taught the first statistical machine learning course offered by the university. Research projects include development of hierarchical Bayesian models, and applications of ML algorithms to data generated in online learning environments.
